Common Troubleshooting & Support
Getting the best performance out of your The Lawno™ (formerly Lawn Boss) comes down to a few simple setup steps. Most issues our customers experience are solved in a few minutes — just find and click on your issue below and follow the guide.
- My blades or head stop spinning when they touch grass
- My Lawno is vibrating too much
- My machine isn't cutting at all or cutting poorly
- My machine won't cut through thick grass
- My mowing wheels keep falling off
- The guard comes off when the wheels fall off
- My flexible edging blade keeps snapping or breaking off
- The edging function isn't working as expected
- My battery is stuck in the tool and won't come out
If you're experiencing any of these:
- Blades or head stop spinning when blade makes contact with grass
- Excessive vibration during use
- Poor cutting performance or the machine won't cut at all
- Struggling to cut through thick grass
Why this happens:
In almost every case, this comes down to one thing — the blade isn't locked in tight enough. When the blade is even slightly loose, the machine can't transfer its full power into cutting. Instead of slicing through grass cleanly, the blade slows down, vibrates, or simply pushes the grass over — bending it flat rather than cutting through it.
Here's what most people don't realise about your Lawno: our tool runs an 800W brushless motor spinning at up to 7,500 RPM. To put that in perspective — that's more power than most corded trimmers you'd find at Bunnings, and the blade is spinning over 125 times every single second. That's more than enough to slice through thick kikuyu, buffalo, and couch grass with ease.
The power is absolutely there. You just need to make sure the blade is secured properly so that power actually reaches the grass.
How to fix it:
Watch this short video — it walks you through how to check if your blade is tightened correctly, and if it isn't, shows you exactly how to tighten it properly so you get a clean, vibration-free cut every time.
Once your blade is locked in tight, you should notice an immediate difference — smoother operation, less vibration, and clean cuts even through thick grass.
Tip: We've heard from some of our customers that tightening and releasing the blade using the spindle screw can be a bit tricky by hand. So we've made a special custom spanner designed specifically for the Lawno to make this much easier. We're now including it in every Lawno kit moving forward. If you don't have one and would like it, just contact our team and we'll send one out to you.
Important: Always make sure your battery is fully charged before use. A low battery means less power reaching the blade, which can make cutting and vibration issues worse — even if your blade is tightened correctly.
If you're experiencing any of these:
• Moving wheels falling off or coming loose repeatedly during use
• The cover guard dislodging when the moving wheels fall off
Why this occurs / How to fix it:
There are a few things that can cause this, and it's worth checking each one.
First — make sure the mowing wheels are pushed all the way in.
If the wheels aren't fully inserted, they'll work themselves loose during use.
Push each wheel in firmly until you feel it click and seat properly.
Second — blade tightening. If your blade isn't secured tightly, the head vibrates during use. That vibration transfers through the machine and can shake the wheels loose over time. If your wheels keep falling off even after inserting them all the way, watch this short video — it walks you through exactly how to tighten the blade correctly so there's no vibration and the mower wheels stay in place.
Tip: We've heard from some of our customers that tightening and releasing the blade using the spindle screw can be a bit tricky by hand. So we've made a special custom spanner designed specifically for the Lawno to make this much easier. We're now including it in every Lawn Boss kit moving forward. If you don't have one and would like it, just contact our team and we'll send one out to you.
Third — guard attachment.
This applies if your cover guard keeps falling off too. When attached correctly, the cover guard should stay firmly in place even under vibration. If yours is coming off, it means it's not be clipped in the right way. Watch this video to make sure your guard is attached properly:
Extra mowing tips that will help from wheels from falling off:
Getting the best results from mowing also comes down to angle and technique. And if your grass is quite long, don't try to mow it in one go — use the trimming function first to cut it down, then switch to mowing for a clean finish.
Watch this video for the proper mowing technique:
If you're experiencing any of these:
- Flexible edging blade snapping off or breaking during edging or trimming
- Going through edging blades too quickly
- The edging function not meeting your expectations
Before anything else — what to expect from the edging function:
The Lawno edging function uses flexible blades, not metal ones. This is an important distinction.
We spent a long time testing different materials to get these blades right. Metal near concrete creates friction and is dangerous. Too soft and they wear out instantly. So we developed a flexible material that cuts cleanly and is safe near paths, pavers and edges. We’ve tested them across all Aussie grass types — buffalo, kikuyu, couch, you name it. They’re not designed to dig into hard ground like a professional metal-blade edger — they’re designed to give you a clean, tidy edge along your lawn’s border. But because they’re flexible, not metal, they will naturally wear down over time — that’s completely normal, just like a line trimmer needs new string. With the right technique, they last much longer and you’ll save yourself money on replacements.
The flexible edging blade is softer and bendier. Because it flexes so easily, it doesn't snap easily when it bumps into hard surfaces like concrete or pavers — it simply bends and keeps going. That's what makes it perfect for edging along paths and trimming tight corners.
If your blades are snapping or breaking — that's a technique issue, not a product fault. A blade that's wearing down gradually over time is normal. A blade that snaps or breaks during use means it's making too much contact with hard surfaces like concrete, pavers, or packed dirt.
How to fix it:
We've put together a simple 3-step guide that covers everything you need to know. This video walks you through:
- Making sure you're using the correct blade — the flexible edging blade.
- How to keep a safe distance from hard surfaces so the blade edges smoothly without unnecessary wear
- How to hold the handle at hip height to keep the head slightly lifted off the ground — especially helpful if your edges have sandy or hard-packed dirt underneath
- A bonus tip for overgrown or sandy edges to keep debris flying away from you
One more tip: If there's heavy overgrowth around your edges, don't try to edge through it directly. Switch to the trimming function first to cut it back, then come back and edge for a clean finish.
If you're experiencing any of these:
- The battery will not slide out of the tool.
- The battery release button is pressed, but the battery is stuck.
- The battery feels jammed after using the machine.
- The battery is difficult to remove after cutting.
Why it occurs:
If the battery becomes stuck in the tool, it is usually caused by excessive vibration during operation.
In almost all cases, this vibration happens when the blade is not installed correctly.
When the blade is misaligned or loose, the tool will shake violently. That heavy shaking is what causes the battery to shift and jam itself in the slot.
How to fix it:
Because the tool has been shaking violently, the battery may have shifted and jammed firmly in the slot. Getting it out will need a slightly different approach than normal — but don't worry, it's straightforward.
The Gentle Tap Technique
This method uses a light object to give the battery a little extra leverage to break free from the slot — no excessive strength needed.
What you'll need: A light object with a bit of weight — a water bottle works perfectly.
Steps:
- Press and hold the battery release button.
- While holding the button, use your light object to gently tap the back of the battery a few times.
- The battery should begin to loosen and slide out easily.
⚠️ Tap gently — the goal is to loosen the battery, not strike it with force.
📝 Note: If the battery still won't come out after trying the Gentle Tap Technique, please contact our support team. You'll find our contact details at the bottom of this page.
Once the battery is out, do not reinstall it just yet — make sure you read the How to Prevent This from Happening steps below first. Then, before popping the battery back in, check that your blade is correctly installed.
How to Prevent This from Happening
Severe vibration is almost always caused by one of these three blade installation issues. Work through each check below.
1. Blade Center Hole Not Aligned
The blade hole must be perfectly centred on the tool head. If it shifts even slightly during tightening, the tool becomes unbalanced and vibrates severely.
Check that:
- The blade hole is centred on the tool head
- The blade sits flat against the mounting surface
- The blade doesn't shift while tightening
2. Using the Flange Correctly
The flange is for metal blades only. Using it with flexible blades creates an uneven surface and causes vibration.
- Metal blade → Flange required
- Flexible blade → No flange needed
Positioning the flange: Place the blade flat against the mounting surface, ensuring it sits flush and centred before tightening. The flange should sit on top of the blade with the bump side facing away from the blade (as shown below), pressing it firmly against the tool head.
3. Blade Not Tightened Properly
Incorrect blade installation is the most common cause of vibration. To make sure your blade is installed correctly, watch our full step-by-step guide below — we strongly recommend watching it from start to finish.

Following this video completely eliminates most blade installation issues our customers experience.
A correctly installed blade means smoother operation, less vibration, and cleaner cuts.
💡 Tip — Having trouble tightening the blade by hand?
We've designed a custom spanner specifically for the Lawno to make this easier. It's now included in every kit. The spanner gives you the right amount of grip and strength to tighten the blade firmly — eliminating the play that causes vibration.
Watch the short video below to see how it works and make sure your blade is locked in tight every time.

Absolutely. The Lawno is equipped with multiple safety features to give you full peace of mind.
It includes a dual safety system — both the safety lock and power button must be pressed together to start — plus an instant blade stop, so the blade stops spinning the moment you release the trigger.
Customers often tell us how much they appreciate these features, especially with kids or pets around. Whether you’re mowing, trimming, or edging, you’re always in control — and completely safe.
Great question! The Lawno doesn’t include a catcher because the healthiest lawns actually don’t need one.
When you trim just the top one-third of your grass, the short clippings break down quickly — feeding your soil with natural nutrients like free fertiliser.
Leaving these fine clippings (called grasscycling) helps your lawn stay greener, thicker, and more drought-resistant — without the extra weight, hassle, or mess of emptying a catcher.
Plus, no catcher keeps The Lawno ultra-light and easy to handle.
In short: less work for you, and a healthier lawn that stays greener naturally
